Well, sadly I never did get to take the bath I had so planned on enjoying. I was laying with Warren and rubbing his back a bit while doing the mommy cuddle thing in order to get him to sleep and restore peace and harmony. I made the fatal mistake all mothers make. I got so comfortable I fell asleep. I have done this often. Oh well, it isnt' as though I dont' need the sleep. I have the next five days off to get some things done. Yup, I get an actual vacation like vacation. I dont' have to work on the 24th, and we are closed on the 25th. This is my Saturday off. So I dont' work till Wed. I can't remember the last time I had that much time off, or that much time alone with the Warren monster. Saturday I already have a date with said son to go stand in line and see Lord of the Rings. Then maybe I will be more motivated to start reading hte books. And maybe I will even read them out loud to Warren. I think from what I have read of the Hobbit anyway it would make a great read aloud book. The Rings books I am not so sure of. I have heard nothing but great things about these books and the movies so I am totally psyched. It is also a great way to introduce him to good classic fantasy and science fiction literature. We have already read all four Harry Potter books, Wizard of OZ, (need to get the rest of the series), Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (0nce again need the rest of the series), The Phantom Tollbooth. I also would like to get him copies of War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells, A Wrinkle in Time, and several others that I can't think of right now. I think this is the best for reading because it encourages his imagination and to think outside of the lines.

I have also found that this type of literture is a great way to examine different issues in a manner that is removed from the actual situation, and thus freeing the reader and the author from many constraints that they would other wise have to place. Take for example The Phantom Tollbooth. It makes some great statements about human beings and thinking vs. doing. Logic creativity and other issues. But it does so in a funny and humerous way that is entertaining. It makes the point a lot better than any old boring lecture on the facts and such. If you haven't read this book you simply must. It is one of the funniest things I have read in ages.

I guess my goal is to have a my son become an open minded adult who is willing to see all the facts and use his brain on things, instead of just spitting out facts because some one minister, leader, friend anyone even me) says it is so. Too many people see willing to have an opinion on things they know nothing about. They go to Church and the minster, priest, speaker or who ever tells them they should condemn such and such and they go out an do it. They have no idea about it, or even know the facts. They burn books they have never read simply because some leader said so. I want my son to be the one who reads the book, and says no, that is stupid and you are full of S***. I want my child to be the kind of man who can think for himself, even when it means he disagrees with me. I want him to be leader not a blind follower of authority. Authority is good, but blind obedience is not. Authority figures are human and are not infallible. A healthy disregaard for authority can sometimes be a good thing. (Did I just say that). I dont know where todays rant came from, but you are welcome to it. Courtesy the warped entity that is my brain.

Happy Holidays everyone, though I am sure I will be writing more before Christmas is actually here. I wish they had a Zany Brainy or something here in town. It is so hard to find good fun educational toys that dont' look like educational toys. And that don't require a small bank loan to pay for.

If you dont' recognize the title of this entry it is from The Authority Song by John "Cougar" Mellencamp. (or what ever he is calling himslef this week).

Mini-Bio

In every neighborhood there is at least one house that all the neighbors gossip about. This is a diary from the woman who lives in that house. I am a single mother in her mid thirties. I live in North Dakota with my son, Warren.

I tend to be a bit of a slob, and am the opposite of a girly-girl. I am geek girl, who loves Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Buffy, Angel, action movies, science fiction, action adventure, Dr. Who, and so on and so on.

I love to write and while I don't post much fiction online anymore I would love to be a writer someday. I am also overweight, bipolar and suffer from allergy induced asthma.
